If you have decided to walk away from medicine or another high-stressed health-care position, you need a playlist.
When the months turned into weeks and those weeks turned into days before my last day, I felt like I was in Purgatory. Having to go to work every day was pure torture for me. And the weekends off didn’t make it any better. I counted the week days at first, but then with weekend days too.
Time was not flying, because I was NOT having fun. (insert resting scream face emoji here). I agonized over how many more Mondays I would have to get through. I was especially over the awkward look I got from co-workers when they finally saw me in passing after they found out I was retiring. Let me tell ya, those last several weeks were difficult in more ways than I had ever imagined (more on that later).
Music fuels, soothes, and invigorates my soul. So, ………………………………..I made a “Last Day Playlist”. I listened in my head phones when I could and many times on my way home. For me, it was the only way I got through to the end.
This week, or any week you come across this post, make yourself a “mix-tape” for your last day. It may help you get through those last few months, weeks and yes dreaded days before you strut your stuff out the door for good.
Meanwhile, here’s mine for inspiration.
I almost forgot (insert wink emoji here). For the next 5 of you who subscribe to my Blog, I’ll send you my PlayList on an MP3 player. Just make sure to add the address where you want it to be sent.
